[The Bean of Industry]
MArch | Sixth Year | Architectural Thesis [Individual]
Industribønne proposes the adaptive reuse of an existing coffee factory located on the historically industrial site of Filipstad, Oslo, currently in transition in preparation for redevelopment. The thesis interrogates the studio brief of ‘inhabiting the wall’ through explorations of entrance and depth within the idea of the monumental architectural wall. The proposal intends to be a vessel in preserving the existing rich cultural and industrial heritage whilst reinforcing connections both to the Oslofjord and urban city centre.
Circular economy processes were key in informing the programmatic development of the Industribønne project. By maintaining the existing concrete structural frame, this allowed for the exploration into the use spent coffee grounds as aggregate in the construction of pre-fabricated rammed earth infill elements.
